Mental Health Tribunals and Mental Health Act Appeals

We provide independent expert Psychiatric, Psychological and Social Circumstances reports for clients detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983 in England & Wales (as amended 2007), and the respective Mental Health Acts in each of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Our experts in Psychiatry & Psychology are able to assess risk and formulate an independent opinion of Psychiatric or Psychological diagnosis and future prognosis; they consider whether the criteria for detention are met; whether the guiding principles are being adhered to and that the least restrictive options for the individual’s treatment and care have been given due consideration. Additionally, they able to comment on the appropriateness of the placement of an individual, the level of supervision and the suitability of the treatment and/or medication being provided.

Such assessments are for individuals on civil sections in Part II of the Act, as well as those on Hospital Orders under Section 37, with or without Restriction Orders under Section 41, in Part III of the Act. We are able to accommodate even the most urgent timescale deadlines for submission of independent evidence to the MHRT, together with hearing attendance for oral testimony, if required.

Our experts in Psychiatry, Psychology and Social Work are able to assess a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to:
